This was my first time razor clamming. Mom said it was really fun and you get to dig the clammy’s and pull them out of the sand by their necks. I thought it sounded fun. But I told her, "I never knew clammy's have necks."
First I helped Mom look for the clam holes by tapping her shovel handle. Once Mom and Dad dug a few we laid them on the sand to count them.
While we were busy counting some of them would try to escape. They would start digging themselves back in to the ground with their foot. About halfway in the sand Mom would tell me to pull on their necks but it was really hard.
I needed some help. They are hard to pull up.
I think I need a few more years before I can pull them out myself. After that mom would dig the hole and then grab the neck. I would reach my hand down in to the wet sand hole and grab the neck with her and help pull the clammy out. I LOVED IT! Daddy cooked them up and we ate them. Yum! (Notice my smile showing in my reflection on the sand but not on my face - its almost as if the picture caught me a second before I burst out laughing!).
